Do You think that Windows 8 is that bad?

I hear so much bad stuff about Windows 8 on the internet even though I run it on one of my pc's and it runs great. It is fun to use. I will admit that the customization options of metro are very limited and that does frustrate me, but I don't think Windows 8 is that bad. Do you think that Windows 8 is that bad, or do you think that the bloggers and tech news people are overexaggerating the problems of Windows 8?

I voted "somewhat" because although it is technically/perfectly stable, the Metro salesman approach does not belong on the desktop. Let the phone babies have that.

I had to vote Yes, it is that bad.

Using monopoly power to remove choice and lead people up the garden path is not acceptable.

It would send a message to all large corporations if Win8 is largely rejected.

Judging by the activity on Forums like this - it may not do very well.

It is nothing compared to the excitement that was generated by the preview/beta versions of Win7.

At least those who come to places like this can see what is wrong with Win8.

Possibly the average Joe buying a tablet won't even notice he is being pushed in a particular direction.

We shall see.

Voted for not sure.

Microsoft have all proper knowledge in creating what is on demand. They are aware of that for sure. But this isn't about just satisfying people, it's about intention, control, change, and leading so called as trend.
Change always invite huge and painful rejection. I'm sure the are also fully aware of that.

Just wish that in final release they will reconsider what people/consumer want and accommodate it to certain extent to have balanced product to win the trend and grab the market.

Que sera sera, whatever will be will be. ;)

I think Windows 8 is excellent. Stable, fast, some nice new functions. Too much focus on the Metro. It takes a few minutes to clean up the start page and then you can get to the desktop with 1 click. So what is the big deal. I would call it the 'One click uproar'.

I think many people that kick Win8 have actually never used it - just seen videos or pictures. I have not yet seen any real showstoppers. It is just a bit different, but we will get used to it.

I totally agree with you. :)

I am thinking of using it as my main OS, but I will wait a bit more.

I voted NO. I like the new Start Screen but it could use some more customizing options to improve the visual aspect. When I first starting using Win 7 it took some digging to find everything since I was use to XP. Windows 8 would have been better received if it came with a quick start guide, but a lot of 3rd parties will make some money publishing those Windows 8 guides and secrets. Looking forward to RC in a few Months.

That is a good point. The color choices for start are really poor. There is too little contrast. And there should be a way to customize the tiles.

Voted NO, since I never will go back to Vista or Win7. In my opinion Win 8 is more transparent, I like the Metro, even though I go to the deskop with 1 click as WHS said.

Like the Charm bar, like the start opener (right mouse click), in fact I like everything. Of course the speed is important too, faster then Win 7 (hands down), hope MS keeps it that way.

It is easy to go back to the Desktop on Windows 8. I agree about how there is too much focus on Metro. Windows 8 is fast, even on my 7 year old Dekstop rocking a Pentium 4, 2.5 gigs of ram and a 5400rpm hard drive on Windows 8 64 bit.

Metro is awful.

yes because it doesn't give me the freedom to choose if i want a start button or don't want the touch screen interface since i don't use touch screens so win 8 is irrelevant to me. il'l stay on win 7 untill MS brings a os that is more appealing to me.

I don’t think it’s that bad. I just don’t think that it’s that good either. What I mean is that I don’t see any reason why it’s better than Windows 7 and I see no reason to change.

I do not mind the question. I am not an expert so can only give you my honest opinion. The only thing that I can see MS as doing is what any business wants to do and that is sell more products. There is, of course, nothing wrong with that. But, there may be other reasons that I don't understand.

Right on target. They want to make more money, and the big money now is in the mobile market (see the success of Apple).

"Qu'ils mangent de la brioche." (Let them eat cake.)

I answered "No", It's not that bad, but not the paradigm shifter that Windows 95 was, that I hoped it would be. Apps are for the most part likely to be irrelevant for the PC user, Metro and search just waste time, and are a backward step, although the start menu was not great either.
In all I have rethought how I use windows, so Windows 8 has made me better - by avoiding the hopelessly redundant ways to do things and just focusing on a single way to do things. I even use the command line and shortcuts more than I did before and it saves time. It is getting more like using Linux with every new version, which means I spend less time using Linux, so MS must be doing something right!
