Netflix, Hulu, Next Issue and Windows Media Center fail

I have a Lenovo IdeaPad Y510P and I use Microsoft Windows 8.1 Professional with Media Center Update 1 64 bit. Recently, I've been having problems with the Netflix, Hulu, and Next Issue modern UI apps that I downloaded from the Windows Store. I can launch the apps, but it won't allow me to log into my accounts so that I can view my content. I pay for these subscriptions along with others. Windows Media Center won't allow me to install the Netflix app and it crashes every time I try to install it. I am very computer savvy, but I have to admit that I need help on these issues. When I launch the Netflix app, it keeps spinning the circle and I never get to view my content. When I launch the Hulu app, it exits with a DJ1 error code. When I try to log into my Next Issue app, it says invalid login credentials. I have contacted Netflix and Next Issue for technical support, but they can't help me. Official technical support seems worthless right now. I've synchronized my licenses, uninstalled and re-installed the apps, and I've used the official Microsoft App troubleshooter. If you need more information from me, then tell me what you need and I'll be able to furnish the technical information. Also, the nVidia Geforce Experience software application keeps crashing on me. Several days ago, everything was working just fine. The most recent system change I did was to try to install the 720+ MB optional Microsoft update KB3000850 which failed. I'm not sure if this caused my problems, but it's the last thing that I remember doing on a system level.

Can you guys help me to get my apps to work? Thank you.

I've done a SFC /scannow and DISM check, scan, and restore health and it made some repairs and I restarted my PC. It did not solve my problems. I also ran the Microsoft app checker and it said that my Windows Store is corrupted and my graphics driver needs to be updated, but I need more technical support in order to figure out how to fix these issues.

I'm at a loss right now in terms of available options. Please help if you can. I don't want to have to perform a full system recovery back to the factory default configuration if it can be avoided. However, I will consider doing so as a last ditch option.

I've also re-installed Microsoft Silverlight and .NET 4.5.2. This doesn't seem to solve the problem either. I know that I can view Netflix and Hulu in a web browser, but I want to get these modern ui apps to work again. What are other possible solutions?

I use BitDefender Sphere 2015 and I don't see outbound rules in my BitDefender Firewall to allow Netflix, Next Issue, and Hulu, but I do see them in Microsoft Windows Firewall with Advanced Security. How do I find the path locations for Netflix, Hulu, and Next Issue so that I can create outbound connection rules to permit network traffic? I think that this is the source of my problems.

I tried the commands that you listed, but nothing came up as needing a repair. I think I'm onto something here and I need some more technical support. Thank you.

I've been researching the BitDefender forums for their Sphere 2013 and Total Security 2015 products and there are people with similar problems as myself. They report that BitDefender cut off access to Netflix, Hulu, etc. while Microsoft Windows Firewall with Advanced Security simply allowed them to access their premium content through the modern UI apps. I think that I'll head over to the BitDefender forums and post a similar thread to see what I can get in terms of technical support.

I uninstalled most of my software security applications and Netflix, Hulu, and Next Issue still don't work. I'm going to test Microsoft Windows Media Center and the Netflix app later today. I am using Microsoft Windows Firewall with Advanced Security.

Thanks for looking into this matter with me. It seems that the Netflix, Hulu, and Next Issue modern UI apps have bugs. My other modern UI apps do work like Amazon Kindle, etc. I'm thinking about contacting the app publishers to see if they plan to release updates that will fix the bugs. I don't think that this problem is localized to my specific Windows 8.1 64 bit installation any longer as I have done numerous system integrity checks and I am working on repairing the Windows Store app. When I read the user reviews for Netflix, Hulu, and Next Issue, there are a lot of complaints about the performance and stability of these apps along with numerous cited bugs.

At this point, I'm holding off on performing a Lenovo One Key system recovery back to the original factory default configuration for now. I need more time to research these apps to see what is going on.

My impression is that some of the apps in the Microsoft Windows Store are not fully baked. Microsoft Corporation removed 1,500.00 apps from the Windows Store because they were garbage and they had malware characteristics. The more that I read the user comments about Netflix, Hulu, and Next Issue, I'm beginning to think that it is the app publisher that is responsible for pushing out unfinished software code to the general public. At this point, my gut tells me to stick with my existing installation as I could easily run into similar problems if I perform a Lenovo One Key system recovery. It's not worth it for a mere three modern UI apps in my opinion.

I uninstalled more software applications today. I got my CPU to idle at around 2% and RAM usage to under 13%. Previously it was much higher. I'm also writing less data to my SSD.

I have a Lenovo IdeaPad Y510P with these specifications:

Intel 4th generation "Haswell" Core i7-4700MQ 2.4 GHz quad-core with Hyper Threading
Dual nVidia Geforce GT 755M 256 bit bus architecture 4.0 GB GDDR5 video RAM in SLi configuration
15.6" LED 1920 X 1080P full HD screen
Lenovo Ultrabay swappable bay containing the second nVidia Geforce GT 755M 2.0 GB GDDR5 video RAM GPU
Intel 7260 802.11 B/G/N 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi with Bluetooth 4.0
Lenovo Accutype keyboard
Synaptics click pad
Crucial Ballistix Sport 16.0 GB DDR3 1,600 MHz CL9 SODIMM RAM
Crucial M550 SATA-III 6 GB/s 1.0 TB MLC NAND FLASH SSD
Kensington lock port with Kensington Click Safe Keyed Ultra laptop lock and Kensington desk anchor
Dual Super Speed USB 3.0 ports
One USB 2.0 always on port
HDMI 1.4a
VGA port
Gigabit Ethernet port
170 watt power adapter and port
3.5 mm headphone jack
3.5 mm microphone jack
1.0 MP web camera
JBL 1.5 watt stereo speakers with Dolby Digital
SD multi-format card slot
6.4 pounds
1.4" thick
Microsoft Windows 8.1 Professional with Media Center Update 1 64 bit

This is a high end and high performance gaming notebook PC. I can play most of my PC games at very high to ultra graphics settings.

I also have an audiophile headphone system which I can write about upon request.

It seems that my Microsoft Windows 8.1 64 bit installation is working properly. I enabled Microsoft Bitlocker using AES 256 bits and SHA-256. I saved my Microsoft Bitlocker recovery keys to a non-encrypted SanDisk Cruzer 8.0 GB USB 2.0 thumb drive.

I have a Western Digital My Passport Portable 2.0 TB USB 3.0 hard disk drive using Microsoft Bitlocker to Go along with a Kingston Data Traveler HyperX 128.0 GB USB 3.0 thumb drive using Microsoft Bitlocker to Go.

It is fast as heck!

I'm going to wait until Microsoft Corporation releases the stable version of Windows 10 to the general public, then I will pay for the upgrade and do the upgrade myself. I'm thinking that Windows 8.1 is not their best operating system version and Windows 10 will magically fix the problems. Until then, I'll keep using my Windows 8.1 64 bit as I normally do so. Windows 10 is what Windows 8 should have been in the first place according to many people. I'm not touching the technical or consumer preview versions. I can't mess up my PC.
