Using Windows 8.1... there are (6) Links in the File Explorer Folders Panel...
Desktop
Desktop
Downloads
Music
Pictures
Videos

Both of the Desktop links take me to D:\Documents\Desktop, which is where I moved my Desktop location to.

I was supposed to move the location of the Documents link to D:\Documents but apparently I changed it to D:\Documents\Desktop as well, causing the link name and location problem.

It worked with my previous installation of Windows 8.1 so I must have messed up this time.

The odd part is when I try to restore the default location, they both show it as C:\Users\...\Documents. So I tried to change the location of one to D:\Documents and ended up with the contents of that folder on my Desktop. Took a while to fix but I'm hesitant to make any more blind changes.

Any help?

Thanks! That thread was the solution... had to use Option 2 and edit the registry but it fixed the problem. Appreciate the help.

Just in case anyone else reads this thread, I came across a webpage which mentioned my problem. Apparently I somehow did what they said not to do... that is I accidentally moved the location of a user folder into another user folder. The link is below and the section is about two thirds of the way down, titled (oddly enough) "Watch Out for This Mistake!" But my biggest mistake was not actually reading the confirmation box that popped up and clicking on [Yes]. I assumed it was just asking me if I was sure... duh!

How to Change the Location of User Folders (Documents, Downloads, etc)
