Solved Return to Start Menu instead of desktop

Hi. I am running win 8.1. I bought my laptop with 8.1 installed, but I suspect that Dell took my win 8 and sold it to me after upgrading to 8.1. I would like for all of my clicks on the Start menu to return me to the Start menu, and not leave me on the Desktop. I recently abandoned StarDock's Start8, which may be causing the problem.

hi ,you should re-read this part of you post ,because im sure there is a typo in it .as it makes no sense to me .

Sorry, I am a newbie (as of this morning). Please ignore the first part of my message and address the following:

Right Click the Taskbar and select properties

Under Taskbar tab, make sure show store apps on taskbar is unselected
Under Navigation tab make sure that when I sign on or close an app go to the desktop instead of start is also unselected

this will return to the start screen when closing apps (only works for modern style apps, desktop ones will still leave you on the desktop)
