Solved Desktop to Metro

I have win8.1 and the majority of the time when I try to switch between desktop and win8 metro screens my computer will shut off and restart itself. This also happens when I am in metro and click a tile (app) it does the same thing. Can't help wondering why and if there is a fix.

Any help would be welcome.

Thank you,

Dave S.

Thanks for the tip but what should I look for in events? I'm pretty good with computers but am not familiar with the doings of this tool.

Perhaps first try the "Event Viewer" in Administrative Tools to see if there are any anomalies?

Look for entries with Red or Yellow flags in all areas, but especially Application and System. Then click on each and look at the description. Search Google for information on that.

Basically you need to reproduce the problem then look at Event Viewer for problems at the tiome of failure. Ignore the other stuff for now.

What you want to do is isolate the event before using the Event Viewer. The Viewer filters the events into Within The Last Hour, The Last Day, and The Last Week. So, try to wait an hour before triggering the event we want to investigate. Note the time and look for events that are logged with that time-stamp.

Control Panel > System > Advanced system settings > Advanced Tab > Startup and Recovery > Settings > Under System failure uncheck "Automatically Restart" if checked.
Now instead of rebooting you may actually see the BSOD with an error message and code you can research.

Hi everyone who responded to my problem. I'm sorry I'm late getting back to you all but have been busy. Had Microsoft tech enter my system but they weren't much help. here is what I found in the event viewer. No idea what to do with it though.

I'm still stymied. It will happen when I click " maps, space weather, and other metro apps I've downloaded or that came installed. It does not happen on all the apps I click on but more than enough to really aggravate anyone.

Thanks for all your interest,

Dave
