cannot stream tv after re install windows 8

hi I have a toshiba laptop using windows 8 having no problems .I have done a restore .repair , reinstalled my programs etc but I cant run live tv off sky news or virgin media everywhere,
I can run these off the normal desktop but not off windows metro screen , can anyone help please
