Windows 8.1 want show contents of computer. See screenshot:

Clipboard02.jpg I must have an infection. Malwarebytes will not run. Pressing windows key brought up pcsettings and it only shows a blue screen with a big gear in the middle. I can't exit out. Do I need to run malwarebytes in safe mode? I have a host of problems. If I wait long enough some of the actions will run.

In the elevated command prompt type sfc /scannow to repair any corrupt system files.

In the control panel, indexing options, rebuild the index under Advanced.

I made no mention of system restore and no you will not lose your programs performing the steps I suggest.

To get an elevated command prompt, Windows Key + X and select Command Prompt (Admin)

Your suggestions worked just great. Now the one problem I have is that Chrome will not start. Will try to install it again.

Thanks Nuccii. My only issue now is I can't right click on the bottom left and get the window to pop up so I can select what I would like to run.

Yes SFC completed...usually for me it doesn't always complete. Shortcuts are great. Thanks again.

No...sfc actually completed and rebooted showing no failures. I didn't stay with it to see it complete...however, i feel like it fixed a lot of corrupt files.

I am real pleased with win now. I am going to image it now that it is working. I created a lot ofrestore points, lol.

I had MyPC Backup to get rid of. It must have had 30 or more items in the registry that hitman pro found.
