Failure to configure

My laptop trys to update windows but then it says failure to configure update reverting back .... How can I stop this from happening?

I have figured out a way to get it off that screen by getting to the blue screen that has the option to refresh my computer. But i would like for this to stop happening. Whyis it not updating properly? How can I fix this?

Were all the updates installed before you tried to get Win 8.1?

I am not sure. I just bought it from the pawn shop. I had to get it while I am dealing with hp fixing my other computer. I have only had the one I posted about since Satuday. If there is a way to check I can. It is working for now because I refreshed it. But I dont want it to do the same thing in a couple days.

Go to Windows Updates in the Control Panel and click Check for Updates

Checking now.

I clicked for check updates. It acted like it was checking. Now it disappeared. I went back. It says
You are set to automatically install updates.
No updates available.
Most recent check for updates: never
Updates were installed: never
You receive updates: for windows only.

Run the Windows Update Troubleshooter and reboot, then try.

I went to "Review your update history" Do i click on " troubleshoot problems with installing updates"?

Install 5 updates at a time otherwise you will drive the computer nuts. If any of those 5 do not install, install one at a time for that batch of 5. Then continue with the next 5. Hide the optional updates for now.

I put one update just to be safe and see howit goes. It still says 0%. It has been over 10 minutes. Is that normal?

10 minutes to download, depending on it's size, is not normal.
How long to install?

When you got this from the pawn shop did you reinstall Windows and if so, using what?

I didnt do anything to the computer except install microsoft office. This time i did 4 for install.I didnt time it. I will next time. It is telling me restart to finish installing updates. Should I? Or after I do the others

Now it is doing the updates. It says keep your PC plugged in until this is done. Installing update 8 of 80.

I mentioned to install 5 at a time and you forgot to select the next batch. You will have to let it run now and hope they all get in. If they don't you will probably see a screen - Failure configurating updates and reverting changes. It will take a while so do not panic.
