ok, I want to use my web cam to make short videos and put them on youtube. but is there a way to record the video

to a USB hard drive or PC hard drive then transfer it to the USB drive?

This program: Download VirtualDub - MajorGeeks can do that. Once you make a video file you can transfer it anywhere.

Just remember that such files, especially those with high-resolution video content, can quickly consume bunches, if not all your free disk space. You can conserve some with "compression", but that typically results in some degradation of the video quality.

I use CamStudio.
I save .avi files to desktop
No problems.
