Today a blue band came across my screen saying I had to update to windows 8.1 and I had to choose between 1 hour, 4 hours or 6 hours. I could not do anything to remove it; I could not even shut down except by pressing the button on my CPU. Prior to that I would get a choice and would choose remind me later. Now it seems I have no choice.

Hi,
Welcome to the forums, if you are like me to keep 8 and not interested in 8.1, just follow the methods in this link:

http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/37808-update-windows-8-1-store-prompt-enable-disable.html

EDIT:
You could also find the Update KB2885699 in Installed Updates and uninstall it.

At some point in the not to distant future you will have to have 8.1 to continue to receive Windows Updates.

After installing windows 8.1 update, no internet!

Okay so I had no choice and Windows 8.1 set itself up. But after a rather lengthy process. I could not connect to the internet at all! Finally I had to use system restore and then I was okay. Was there something I did wrong during the installation when it asked me to connect to a network or something?
