I need to return a desktop computer. I just turned on bit locker and plan on also erasing the drive as well (after bitlocker is complete). It is an SSD.

Out of curiosity, once bitlocker is on, can anyone access the data if they do not know my log in information or recovery key?

thanks,

Mike

In theory anyone sufficiently motivated could brute force crack the encryption, but it would likely take an extremely long time to the point of not being practical in the likely cost:benefit analysis. All encryption, assuming it can be decrypted, is subject to brute force cracking. There is also a well known, and intentional, back door built into Windows. It's usually not that big of a deal because it requires physical access to the computer, but it basically allows you to wipe out the password on an account in the event you forget it. I have absolutely no idea how that might interact with Bitlocker though.
