failure configuring Windows Updates...

I did a factory re install on my Lenovo G585 laptop which came with Windows 8. Everything went well and I was going to do the Windows updates so that I could install the Windows 8.1 update. I restarted and before the computer finished booting it started bringing in updated, then at 98% I got a message that said "Failure configuring Windows updates Reverting changes Do not turn off your computer" That was 6 hours ago and all that's happened since is that message is on the screen and the spinning dot ball is spinning next to it. Please Help! what do I do now?

This has happened to me before as well, just power down your computer and try again.

I let it sit overnight and it reverted back, then I did an update and finally the 8.1 update which failed. I ended up with 8.0 and I had to stop the updates to keep the system from trying to update and failing again tying the laptop up overnight while it reverts back. So now I have a computer that cannot be updated, I am not happy but I haven't been able to find a solution. I don't know why there is not an online uproar about this issue. My friend had the exact issue and stopped using his laptop. I believe the fault is in the Microsoft updates.

The 8.1 update should update through the App Store.

It downloades thru the app store but when I rebooted and it loaded it said the update failed and it reverted back to 8.0

Could you give me the error message? Word for word, please?
