Booting error after deleting Ubuntu

Whenever I turn on my computer, it goes to the Toshiba start up screen like it should, but before it goes away, another black smaller window shows up and it stops there. The black screen says the following

Miinimal BASH-like line editing is supported. For the first word, TAB lists the possible command completions. Anywhere else, TAB lists possible device or file completions.

grub>

Pressing ctrl+alt+del just starts back at the Toshiba screen for a second before giving me the same screen as before.

I just want to be able to boot back into windows 8 again. Thanks for your time.

Have you checked in the Bios or a Boot Device menu to see if a Windows Boot Manager is still available for selection?

Did you make any changes to the Bios to allow your system to be able to Boot Ubuntu when you installed?

I'm not sure how to do the first thing you said.

I dont think I messed with the BIOS because I heard that's a bad thing to do, but I did change something after downloading Ubuntu that made windows the default OS, so it didn't automatically boot me into Ubuntu. When I installed Ubuntu, I used a USB and I remember I had to restart my computer at some point and press f12 and change a setting. I think it had something to do with UEFI and secure booting. This is all from memory, since I can't go on my computer and go back to the tutorial I followed.

You didn't get rid of the GRUB bootloader is your problem. You should be able to do this from the Ubuntu installer I believe and then you'll likely need the Windows installer to restore the Windows bootloader. I haven't actually done this myself since the Windows 2000 days, so all I can give you are the general steps to get you started.

I'd also check the Ubuntu documentation to see if they have any instructions on the proper way to remove Ubuntu and revert back to a Windows-only system that you might be able to adapt to your needs.

It sounds like he needs to remove Ubuntu from the msconfig's Boot tab. If Ubuntu show's up their, right-click on it and delete it. Also give CheckDisk a run.

They actually have to Fix the mBR, when removing Linux from the drive.

The bios has nothing to do with this. The OP has to Fix the MBR, to correct the booting issue.

Thanks everyone for the help. Based on what asvent wrote, I'm assuming I need a windows 8.1 x64 installation disk to overwrite the GRUB bootloader with the windows bootloader. If that is a correct assumption, please let me know. If that is the case, I may need to take it somewhere that would be able to do that for me. Mainly because I'm at university currently and I therefore do not have access to a working PC with Windows 8.1 x64.

it would not have to be win8 64 bit to use it just for the repair .any friends who might have a win8 disk or win8 on a thumbdrive ,you could borrow ,
I see me are both in the same part of the country but you are likely about 400klm away from me ,or I could get one to you, I could mail you a copy but with the long weekend you would not get it till Tuesday .
If you have access to a computer with a dvd burner you might try downloading win8.1 90day trial .and use it to do the repair

Since the MBR is not used in the Windows 8 install, it seems a little strange you want to repair that to get Windows 8 back.

It sounds like the OP installed Ubuntu in the Legacy mode, which puts a special partition on the GPT drive to be able to boot as Legacy. The Windows Boot Manager should still be available in the bios if the system is set to boot the UEFI boot devices.............

Someone who set this up originally should be able to retrace the original steps to get the UEFI and Windows 8 secure boot reconfigured. Looking at the boot tab in the bios is normally where this is done.

I'm trying to email you, but it keeps failing. Also, I dont know how to send personal messages. Just want to make sure that what you sent me is your email address and that there isn't a typo or anything. If not, it must just be me and I'll post my info here for a while then delete it once you have it copied down.
