I'm having problems with the windows installer taking a long time installing something. I tried installing a couple programs and the installer box would come on screen, nothing would be happening for the longest time. Then, another box would come up saying something like retry or cancel. I would hit retry, then it would fill some in the progress bar... etc etc etc. Eventually after a couple hours everything was installed. This shouldn't be like this. I remember when I built this computer in March 2014, everything was fine, then in June 2014 this seemed to be the problem. Rebuilt it in July and now 3 monrhs later it seems to be happening again. The first time I accidently did something to try to resolve this and I had to install all my non windows programs on again... so I just did a fresh install and started over. I don't want to do this again. I have most of windows on a 1tb Samsung SSD then Four (4tb) Drives for other things. F: Drive for programs, the others for backup, Video and Music.

I can't say what is causing your issue but one thing you need to save all the work of reinstalling... backups ! Make a running incremental backup as you build your system up, then as soon as something goes wrong you can recover back in minutes.

No the anti virus (eset smart security) is disabled. I have seen somewhere else where some people are same problem almost 3 months later. Seems a coincidence.

Installer Hangs/Stalls when installing new programs

I'm still having these problems with Windows Installer program. It stalls/hangs for hours. If I turn off the machine and try to reinstall something it says that it is in the process of installing the program. Do I need to call Microsoft for them to give me an answer?

same problem here for 6 months now.

I also have this problem for half a year now. Every installation stalls. Windows updates, normal software... Everything. I found out that restarting in safe mode allows me to install.
