My right click menu will not stay open in Windows Explorer

I have been battling this issue for a couple of months now. When I try to do anything with a file or folder in Windows Explorer and I right-click the item, the menu will close after a few seconds. This does not happen inside of any programs (or even other OS menus, such as right-clicking the start icon), and it doesn't even happen consistently each time. Sometimes I'm able to quickly select what I need before the menu closes, most times not.

I am using a Microsoft Wireless Mobile Mouse 1000, and I have tried both generic drivers and the Microsoft Mouse & Keyboard Center ones. I have also tried using a wired USB mouse with no change in results. I reinstalled my operating system a few weeks ago for an unrelated issue, and that still didn't fix things!

I'm at the end of my rope with this...does anyone know where else I might do some troubleshooting?

Hi, have you tried installing the latest updates from windows update? If that doesn't fix anything I would talk to the windows helpdesk people who will be able to advise you further! Good luck and let me know how you get on

Hi Sunilm, I'm way beyond basic troubleshooting, though I appreciate the response. I feel like this is an issue specifically with the way the mouse drivers are behaving with the SP2, since reinstalling a fresh copy of everything doesn't fix it, and the fact that nothing similar happens with any other mouse/keyboard setups I have used.

No fix yet, but please others chime in!

Sorry, to clarify, SP2 = Surface Pro 2 (I'm on to many forums, haha). I am running Windows 8.1 Update 1
