As W8 gets nearer will new W7 PC's be offered a free W8 upgrade ?

Do you think new W7 PC's will come with a free Windows 8 upgrade disc offer (as happened when Vista replaced XP and W7 replaced Vista) to help prevent sales from stalling. For anyone wanting W8 and thinking of a new PC that could be the way to go. A clean install of any OS is preferable and providing you can still clean install from upgrade media (as you can in Vista and W7) then it could worth considering.

Well, if they do, that leaves me out.

Recently bought a new machine.....Win 7 64-bit.

But I can live with it...

It's possible that they do that to keep W7 machines sales, but let's wait to see...

I doubt it very much.

If I could get Windows 8 on my computer for less than $100 I'd be perfectly happy.

There could be upgrade editions, I guess we wont know until nearer that time.

That will probably be with the purchase of a Dell or other manufactured PC. For a free update to Windows 8 from a newly purchase Windows 7, it will be probably in August like they did for Windows 7, if my memory serve me well.

I suspect they may well do something like that tbh or sales could slump.

I just hope they don't make everything W8, I have tried it and don't like it ill stick with W7

You probably think I'm mad saying this, but having tried W8 and finding that W7 while good lacks certain options, I would seriously consider buying a copy of Vista Ultimate which is available new/unopened for quite reasonable money. I honestly prefer working with it more than W7.

As the time to think about a new PC nears I'll wait and see how the W8 RC turns out before making a rash decision

You're not mad at all, Vista is still my favourite OS.

That puts us in the minority for sure... pleased to hear of someone who likes Vista though. I get tired of all the Vista bashing from folk who have never used it.

This is going off topic (sorry), but I thought today that if we had been living with W8 for a few years and then along came Vista then what would we make of it. Would it have the "Wow Factor" that W8 seems to lack so much. I think it would.

I had Vista on my spec machine when it first came out. I hadn't had any problems at all with it, but it was sluggish.

Win 7/8 light years faster and more responsive.

I think I tried Vista SP2 for a little bit and that too didn't have any problems. It was also faster than Vista RTM.

All in all, it's a good OS, especially if you have more modern hardware than I do.
