I'm getting a little concerned about the Windows Division...

I'm getting concerned with Microsoft's Windows Division's take on metro design. A recent screenshot of the Desktop of Windows Explorer is showing a more flatter UI. This is great and all, but it's not metro design. It doesn't look modern whatsoever. The Ribbon UI pairs with the Aero design just like Office 2007 did, with a little top window border versus how Office 2010 has the Ribbon UI pair with it; in a larger window border that melds together nicely.

I know the Windows Phone Division know how to design a metro UI, but I don't think the Windows Division is taking any hints. They seem to think if it's flat, it's modern. It's not.

This needs to be fixed.

Do you have the screenshot? I think I know which one you are talking about and if it's that new explorer with the metro design supposedly yes it's ugly. They are seriously confusing themselves. It's to simply things. But they aren't simplifying anything. It looks bad. They need to realize the ribbon is ugly but making things flat isn't much better. I like the zune software but even that needs some work. They need to use the tabs from the windows media player 12 or something. I think they are trying to remove all the gloss/glass/un-needed effects but their execution is lacking.

What do you mean by modern?

The complexity and intricacy of the main UI as it is now - with it's improvements to transparency - has been developing and improving - you can't get more modern that that.

I think they may be trying to give things squarer edges, which is fine.

Unfortunately, because of the limitations of small screen devices, they had to give metro an old fashioned design.

Unless you can suggest a way they can make the metro interface modern?
