Accidentally formated partition C and D

Hello guys,

I have Accidentally formated partition C and D and now my HD has only 1 partition (1 TB).[Looks like partitions has been overwritten]

I had windows 8.1 installed in partition C and i had all my files in my partition D.

How can i restore just partition D files? (i have some immportatant stuff in here)

For security reason i haven't used my HD after i saw that my files has been wiped.

If formatted the D: partition you lost those files, unless someone knows of programs to recover them. Usually be for deleted files.

Im sorry, i forgot to montine that i have ubuntu installed now, can i use another PC with my laptop HD to restore local disc D files? Because i heard that using the HD will make it more harder to restore files.

I had two partitions, and i wanted to make dual boot (windows 8 + ubuntu) but after i installed ubuntu for some reason it formated my HD, and two partitions (C - windows and D my files) removed, now i see only 1 partition 991 Gb.

Well everywhere you look you see BACK UP, BACK UP, CREATE YOUR RESTORE DISKSET. If your files are truly important I would seek professional recovery service. If only somewhat important as they must be or you would have them backed up.
You were linked to Mini tool By MilesAhead I haven't used there recovery program but there Partitioning tool is the best. Any other recovery software or this one I would get on there Support forum and find out how to use there program to be very confident in what your are doing before starting as if you get it wrong you could make your data unrecoverable.

It sounds like the Ubuntu install may not have recognized GPT disk setup. In any case I don't see if the recovery tool has an option to make a boot CD. It would seem logical to run from a boot disc since it's going to manipulate format etc.. See if you can get someone(if you don't have another PC to do it yourself) to make a bootable CD from that or another data recovery program and try it.

If the data is some commercial data you must have then I would not touch anything. Just take the drive to a recovery technician. Only you know what is on there so you have to decide what to spend on the recovery attempt.

I did the same thing. I booted off of a backup Win8 hard drive and salvaged the missing files with a program called active file recovery.
Active@ File Recovery for Windows detects and recovers lost or deleted files and disks


It gave a list of folders on the drive which I copied and pasted onto the booted up hard drive. It is not an easy program to figure out but I find that it was UNNECESSARY to scan the drive before recovering the files. Good luck!

BTW, I DID have a cloned backup of the drives but I had downloaded a bunch of stuff that I did not want to have to do all over again.

Wait! NOTHING IS LOST! As long as all you did was delete the partition, ALL THE FILES AND FOLDERS ARE INTACT. I was able to get everything that I wanted off of my two hard drives. JDS, please research the subject before replying, this poster could have lost all his information for no good reason due to your post.

Yes there would be in the end no. Recovery people have software that they can recover formatted partitions as long as quick format was used There are tools out there that will too. Way over my head.

It's a pain in the ass, but I was surprised how nothing was lost when I wiped out the partitions and did a quick format. The program to recover stuff was hard to use but did it's job. Everything was mostly backed up so I only needed a few things off of the drives. In the meantime, I am sure the OP has reloaded the OS and gone on with life, heh.
