As it happens, another geek at our sister site the Seven Forums had exactly the same issue yesterday, caused by a dog :). When the display is rotated 90 or even 180 degrees, it can be a bit tricky to use the mouse to fix this using Screen resolution tool. See this post at Seven Forums for keyboard shortcut solution: Homepage is verticle Solved - Windows 7 Help Forums

It's even more fun when you get viruses that cause this and disable the shortcut/resolution change just to irritate people, there is even one I saw once where it makes your screen flicker. Can be a nightmare!

Glad to see you fixed it.

David had already given the correct answer, to use Screen Resolution tool to set the display in Landscape. I simply added a keyboard shortcut for that, knowing that some users find it difficult to move and use mouse when the display is sideways or upside down.

I tried the Ctrl+Alt+Arrow keys & nothing happened.

It doesn't work for me neither, but I did stumble on a necessary key combo that works great. I thought I'd try Ctrl/Tab just for grins and that switches between Start Screen and App Screen. I used Tab then Enter. This is much better. :)

My mistake not to mention that the shortcut I mentioned does not work on every GPU. I have ATI Mobility Radeon and Intel HD Graphics, for me it works, and it should work for the OP because of what he said: "after just goofing off with my key board everything has turned sideways on the screen".

If "goofing off with keyboard" turned the display sideways, it means it can also be fixed with keyboard.

From Microsoft Answers
:

Some graphic devices do support a keyboard shortcut to rotate the screen, notably nVidia, enables the Ctrl+Alt+Arrow Keys.

I have switchable GPU on this laptop, using ATI only when needed (some HD videos and so on), usually I use the Intel HD Graphics which support this shortcut.
