Registry corrupt- how do I repair Win 8 from boot?

Hello there,

I would really appreciate some advice as I have messed up my computer I need to work on! :(
Basically, I had a freeven pro virus which I have identified by some malware software and I have deleted the registry folders where my several viruses were located. In the process I also I disabled the SYSTEM to control my account (task manager?).
The effect is that the computer at start up shows weird signs instead of English (so I can't even identify troubleshoot- but by now ive tested all options anyways and there is no reaction) but also doesn't want to log in.

The windows key is on the system of the computer (how smart) and I have no access to original cd as im away. Can I automatically repair it somehow from boot or how do i put a windows on usb to repair the computer from it? Any other ideas?

Please help me out! ;(

Welcome to the forum Dorothy, I'm afraid you are in a very bad situation. The only thing I can think of is if you had a boot CD/DVD with a serious virus cleaner on it and ran from there. Sounds like you have a very bad virus. Deleting registry folders is not good either. You could have deleted good with the bad.

You most likely will have to re-install your system after a complete wipe of the hard drive. Maybe one of the wizards here have a better solution, I don't.

Did you computer come pre-installed with Win 8, if so what make of computer, you may have a recovery partition to restore to factory conditions.

Yea, sounds like she made a bad thing worse by deleting stuff. Problem is, sounds like she can't get into anything.

Depends on the computer and if pre-installed, recovery partitions are usually are accessed through the BIOS at boot.

Have to check that, don't think I can. Sure would be nice. My BIOS sucks.

I couldn't understand a word of it. What are registry folders?

The antivirus indicated the location of the virus elements in data register so i deleted them from there since i couldn't get the antivirus to fix them as it was a trial version. There were some viruses there but i think it was myself that made it not work at all.

No, the computer is self built desktop so I have nowhere I can go to as I have also installed the windows 8 by directly upgrading from previous windows. F1/F8 at boot works though but i can't move anywhere once i get the windows login screen.

Another thing is, there is one hard drive split into drives and I really want to keep what is on drive D- in which case maybe I could attach it to another desktop and get data off it before formating the drive? I could try installing another windows on it too just to get data off the drive?

If I get original windows on cd/usb, could i manage to get the computer to boot into the installed windows and go for "automatic repair"?

Any other suggestions? I will get to do it this weekend...Thank you!!

I assume you are using another PC to post. if so, can you create a USB recovery disk from it and use it to boot up this PC or you can download: Macrium WinPE .iso - OneDrive created by WHS then use Rufus - Create bootable USB drives the easy way , connect an external HD and boot up from it. This is a rescue disk for Macrium backup software but you can use it to save your data from D drive. There are 2 icons on the bottom left corner: My Computer and Command Prompt. Click on My Computer, it will open the File Explorer, drag and drop your personal data to the external HD.

Next, click on the Command Prompt and type: bcdedit /set {default} safeboot minimal then try to reboot your PC if it can boot into safe mode. If it can then hope that what you've deleted is still in recycle bin and restore it or try to run the system restore from there.

In addition, there's a hidden folder under C:\windows\system32\spp. Copy the whole folder spp to your external drive. This folder contains your activation information and you can use it to re-activate Windows in case you have to re-install Windows 8.

Hope this helps !!!.
