From my experience I would choose Asus over Acer any day especially if we are talking about laptops.

I steer all of my clients away from Acer but that's just me. This is really more of one of those personal preference questions. When you buy a product you generally get what you pay for in fairness of price range and to similarity in all products.

I've bought a few Acer and never had a problem. I don't recall ever having an Asus. Everyone has their favorite companies but laptops have become fairly fungible. Now, I look and specs and price. Most have gotten fairly decent about removing bloatware and laptops not only come with less but what there is, is easily removable.

My only real gripe with Acer is that they have only like a 6 month warranty on the batteries. I have never heard of them having a 7 hour battery either. That probably is at very minimal usage.(display light all the way down etc )

I would just be weary of stuff like that. From what it sounds like also the laptops probably don't have pci hardware such as optical drives.

The other thing that turned me away from Acer is that I have owned four Acer laptops in the past and every single one of them had a fan on the far right. EVERY ONE. After about a year/year and a half your normal computer person won't know to clean the fan out occasionally. Have they gotten better? I couldn't say no idea.

How is Asus fans? Some of theirs is similar to Acer but some of them I have seen to be in the middle or have a higher slope to allow flow.

The laptop is fine, maybe it's just this computer but I was unable to view more than the front of the laptop. To confirm where the fan is I was unable to.

I would recommend the Asus laptop. They are really tough and provide solid performance. I have an Asus laptop which is 7 years old and never had a problem with it. This is my experience with Asus and I strongly recommend it but after all it is your choice!

I'm on my 2nd Asus notebooks the first one lasted 4 years then video card crashed. I been on this G75 since July 2012. Have had to RMA it twice. First time for a simple right side speaker that didn't work after a 2 week turn around the right speaker still did not work!
first Spring of 2013 I have a complete failure. 2nd RMA Replaced MB, Keyboard, track pad and cables and right speaker wire. Has worked perfectly since its return about 3 weeks later. I have no idea about Acer!! Asus Tech support sucks bad. If you do buy Asus get in the Forum from where ever you get it from and look for Users that have cl as in cl-albert cl is for customer loyalty these guys are very helpful with getting your computer fixed if you have too and most are pretty sharp tools on fixing any none hardware issues that cam come up. Even If you don't have a ROG Notebook or MB you can still join the ROG forums some great Peer to peer help there http://rog.asus.com/forum/

As you can see, everyone has their own experiences which you should take with a grain of salt. Ultimately it is you to make your decision for better or worse. Pick what is best for you and suits your needs as to what you want to do with it. There is no clear winner.

Of course there is. Sleep on it and then get the one you think is prettier or cooler or more practical or whatever your deciding factor is. Not a £20 price differential. You'd regret it.

No idea. My current laptop has two, my last had one on the RHS. I wouldn't worry about it - if there was a fundamental flaw in placing of fans presumably the makers would have noticed. It is their job after all.
