I just had windows on, a few programs like sony vegas and a pdf. Took a shower, returned to find everything was "not responding". After a few minutes of trying to bring up the task manager or get it to budge, I had to resort to holding the power button to turn the damn thing off. Is thee any other way to just force windows to shut down in cases like this without damaging the computer?

The "critical" error is the one that is of me hard shutting down my computer. I can't figure out why it did this. I'm using windows 8 on a fairly new and powerful acer laptop.
