Win8 Pro upgrade to 8.1

I upgraded my WIN 8 Pro laptop to 8.1 and now it appears that I only have the standard 8.1, not 8.1 Pro. Stupidly, I assumed that the system would recognise the fact that it was replacing the Pro version and install accordingly. How can I confirm the version I have and, if it is the standard 8.1, how do I retrieve my Pro license?
Any help gladly received. Thanks, Stu

Thanks for replying so quickly! Yes, the update came from the Microsoft store. My original upgrade to Pro came as a DVD with a product number. winver provides me with the info that the system is version 6.3 Windows 8.1. I do not see the title "Pro" anywhere

I never had cause to check prior. I use this laptop for video editing, using Avid Media Composer. Before the upgrade, Media Composer operated correctly. Now, it opens an error message screen informing me that Windows Media Player is not installed. The reason I upgraded to ver 8.0 Pro initially was to get access to Windows Media Player. I was under the impression that only the Pro versions have Media Player, hence the question as to how to determine whether I have Pro or not.

my guess is that you only had win8 before the store update .
windows media player is in both win8.1 and 8.1 pro

unless you mean windows media center .and it only runs on pro and needs to be purchased from Microsoft

No. I do not mean Windows Media Centre and yes, I am certain I did have WIN8.0 Pro prior, as I went through the activation process with the new product number. (and it completed the process) Thanks for your time, Cheers, Stu.

Thanks for your reply. Sadly, I do not see Pro in my System screen. I still have the original Pro upgrade for 8.0, but when I try to enter the new product code, I am informed it is incorrect. Any ideas on how to rectify this, other than shelling out for another upgrade (Grrr!)

I'd say contact Microsoft. Sounds like you somehow got the wrong version if 8.0 Pro was on there prior to the upgrade.

Thanks to all who replied. Popeye, thanks for your cmd line input. It definitely shows that I did not get the correct version when upgrading to 8.1! I'll contact MS to see what to do next.
