Major system corruption, USB recovery not working

So I broke it.

My desk top was working when I turned it off yesterday, i turned it back on this morning to discover it got stuck on the start menu screen, so I turned it off and turned it back on (it apparently was having this issue a few days ago when a friend was using it, he reset it several times). When it turned back on and I logged in, the screen kept flickering between the desk top and what i assume is the start menu. It won't even load the desktop/start bar icons.
I've tried booting in safe mode and the same problem but it gave me an error message,I/O unexpected error 0xc00000e9. so i decided to boot from a recovery USB, and now its telling me that the media isn't valid. I don't want to wipe it as it has valuable documents on it.

tldr, I broke 8.1 and my recovery isn't working.

I have another windows 8.1 machine that I used to create the recovery USB.

How did you create the usb ?

With Macrium Reflect or something similar ?

Is the usb first in booting options in the bios ?

Is the boot menu enabled in the bios ?--- It assigns an F-key to press on booting to access boot manager.

Can you even get into the bios ?

I made the usb using the recovery software already on the additional computer, I can still boot from bios and change setting that way.

I use Macrium.
I gave up on bootable usb's using the Microsoft way.

Someone will be along soon to offer advice. :)

ok, so I hit a new snag, now the computer won't turn back on, it just gives me black display. its a new model so it doesnt beep for POST and i only removed the harddrive from it and left everything intact. The monitors plug into the GPU and when I unplug them they ask for a signal so they're working.

Since your first post it smelled like a hardware problem, mostly like faulty PSU. Do you know more details about components in that computer.

all I know is my boyfriend bought it second hand from a LAN center that went bust, I would assume it had at least half decent insides.Oone of the fans on the graphics card is loose and makes the most annoying noise but it's been like that for almost a month with no real issues.

If your motherboard has an onboard video output you could try that as to me it does sound like a GPU issue. You may have to unplug your graphics card to do this

I took the graphics card out to see if it would boot without and it turned on but still no display, so I've resigned to the fact it's dead and I should just make a new one.

Check the PSU first.
