Odd 'Desktop' tile on start screen

I see on my friends laptops that they have all four resizing choices available on their Desktop tile in the start menu. I don't know why but I do not have the large option available, as you can see in the picture attached. I'd like to have it like the tile next to it.

I'm running 8.1. Any ideas?

Are they running 8.1.1 with a third party tool like Stardocks ModernMix & Start8, or Classic Shell. There is another third party tool that people use for making Windows 8 work better and also give you back the Windows 7 feel, but with the Windows 8 components still available.

It seems that the options available to the system for resizing the tiles is determined by your screen size and resolution of the computer.
I have it available to me to in 4 choices on my 15.6" Acer Laptop and 21.5" iMac Running Boot Camp Windows 8.1.1 but not on my ASUS ME400C which is 10.1"

After doing some research I found this to be the #1 answer. One rep and 10K internet points for you! ;)

Hmmm... On my system, when I select Resize for some tiles I'm given 4 choices while others give 2 or 3 so it seems it depends on which tile you're wanting to resize.

Well hold on, obviously I am able to resize other apps to the largest possible size, just check the initial image, so this is an easy answer to a more complicated problem. There is something wrong with this Desktop tile itself. I know that where I saw the desktop tile in large format had lower screen resolution than on my laptop, with about the same screen size.

Any other ideas?

I just realized that the Tile must also support the Live Function Option. You might want to check that

What do you mean - the desktop tile is not a live tile.

I mean the Tile It self must have the option to Toggle the Live Function. Right Click the Tile and see if it gives you the Option of turning it off or on.
You also might want to try to unpin the tile from the start screen and then pin it again. to see if it helps

No, my desktop tile when right clicked does not have anything about live tile (you can see in the original image all the options I get when right-clicking). Why, does yours?

I unpinned and re-pinned, no difference. Maybe I just have an old desktop tile from original windows 8?

It's looking more like tiles are app specific and designated by the developer. There may also be a difference between 8 vs 8.1. There may be other factors such as screen size.

I have all 4 size option with 8.1.

I have all 4 size option with 8.1.

Is it possible for you to directly send me a copy of your tile?

Good question. Wouldn't know if that's possible.

To throw more wood on the fire > I have Bing Desktop app where my desktop image changes daily. The tile image reflects that also. It will reflect any desktop image, so it's like a semi-live tile.

I would change the desktop background and do a restart just to see if that would help, worth a try ?

Certainly worth a try, but it did not change anything.

Any other ideas? I'm waiting for an answer that has me changing some value in the registry or the like.
