Solved Read Only

My wife has new Dell 'all in one' Desk Top. Copied all files from backup drive to USERS directory on Dell.
I can retrieve file to modify it but it says 'read only'. I can modify file but when I try to save it a message 'READ ONLY' comes up. I have been through the properties of the directories and cleared all the read only boxes.
Using Networking on my computer, I can retrieve the files from the Dell, modify it and save it.
Why is the Dell Read only?

Hi Kingrh,
Just right click the file and uncheck the read only Option.

What happens if you copy some files to C:\Users\Public? It's shared by default so it should allow modification.

I've never found it necessary to change anything to modify files.

Why don't we see what the OP says in answer since he's the only one with access to the PC?
