why does my new computer have a recovery file

    Windows 8
    HP envy 17

In my files I have a recovery file on my new laptop that is dated just a few months before i bought it. I was wondering is this just a program to recover files or could this possibly be a refurbished laptop? Another thing is the touch pad doesn't line up with the laptop quite right. It doesn't necessarily bother me, it works fine but I'm justa little skeptical.

    Where do you see this?

Can you post a screen capture of the window that shows this?

Was it advertised as Refurbished? Or was it a demo model? I see the use of Refurbished as simply meaning that it was sold and then returned within the limit set by the seller, can't be sold as new again because the Serial Number was registered as being sold. The POS scanners get a lot of information when scanning the bar code/s. Any warranty should start at the date of your purchase unless stated otherwise.

Another thing is the touch pad doesn't line up with the laptop quite right
That frequently happens when the keyboard includes the key pad/10-key pad such as on 15.6" and 17.3" Notebooks and the Touch pad is to the left of center.
