Adding anything to freshly installed Windows 8.1

Yesterday I did a clean install of Windows 8.1 in order to fix a BSOD problem

All of my hardware checks out great, but I'm being very careful about adding programs and devices.

I have a few questions:

1. Should I look for updates for anything that Windows tends to miss? Dell updates?
2. I took Malwarebytes off because I heard about it causing BSOD. Any other recommendations for protection or does Windows do a pretty decent job?
3. Any other things you'd like to recommend I have on my computer to keep it running smooth and avoid BSOD are appreciated!

So far Windows 8.1 runs very smooth!

hello ,I will add a few comments ,I have use malwarebytes for years ,and recently bought the pro version ,and use it along with windows defender ,all is ok so far ,but I do watch where I surf and download programs from ,I have never had malwarebytes cause a bsod ,they are usually caused by bad ram or device driver errors ,also best that you get Dell updates from dell and not windows
you should have gotten a error message with the bsod that would help with what caused it
