Problem as above - when i plug my samsung note 2 phone in it shows in file explorer with no problems

The computer knows my nexus tablet has been plugged in because it gives me the option to eject it, but it does not show in explorer so I can not drag and drop files on to it

Most likely you need to install a driver.

I personally haven't plugged any of my tablets/phones into my computer via USB in quite awhile, I just use DropBox or some other app to transfer files. Much easier, IMO.

Is a good solution unless a large video file and have limited ISP allowance and slow upload speed.

thanks for quick replies guys!

as Popeye says- The files I need to transfer are far too large to go down the cloud storage route!

Ive just found the nexus 7 in devices, but its classed as unspecified? it was showing up in file explorer fine a couple of weeks ago!

Cheers popeye!

Think your right regarding update glitching - The nexus updated to android 4.4.4 last week.

Anyway Ive got it sorted, I found the nexus in device and printers it was classed as unspecified so I deleted the driver, unplugged then plugged in, windows assigned a driver for it, ( but it still would not show up in file explorer) I then done a driver roll back and hey Presto!

Nexus back in file explorer-
