After a recent Windows update I now have the desktop taskbar appearing when I go into Metro apps.
It's annoying because it often hides some on screen info.
I prefer not to use the "auto hide" option and I have not enabled the "Show Windows Store apps on the taskbar" option.

It's normal after 8.1 update 1, many were asking for it.

Interesting footnote:-

After setting "Animate windows when minimizing and maximizing", I enabled "Show Windows Store apps on the taskbar" just to check what happens.
The taskbar now appears in auto-hide mode on metro screens which may turn out to be a handy feature.
But you said that you didn't like auto hide ???

I registered literally just to say thank you for this fix. This has been bugging me for the past couple of days now.

It's just unfortunate that the "fix" involves enabling unncessary animation. It also doesn't seem to fix it 100% of the time but it's certainly much better than it never hiding at all.

I prefer not to use it on the desktop, but it may be useful when in metro apps.

If you ask me, it's better to have taskbar on autohide, specially when it's on the bottom. To use anything on it, like switching between applications or to start some, you have to bring cursor to it anyway and it will raise up. In the mean time when not needed it does not cover part of the screen. Only time it gets to be annoying is when program has it's own taskbar and they get mixed up.
