Files and folders opening with single click

Despite folder options being set at double click files and folders annoyingly open with one click. Any idea how I can stop this?

Have you tried option 2 here?

Single-Click or Double-Click to Open an Item - Windows 7 Help Forums

Also on the same page try this:

Open "Run" and type gpedit.msc to open up the group policy editor. Navigate to User Configuration/Administrative Templates/All Settings/Turn on Classic Shell. My setting was set to Enable. I changed it to Disable. I then opened up folder options from the control panel and on the general tab clicked Restore Defaults.

After changing the setting in gpedit, you have to open "Run" again and type: gpupdate.

Then do the folder options part.

Folders option is set at double click. The other suggestion I did find when googling and I have no setting 'Turn on classic shell'

Maybe it's the mouse? Is it wireless or wired?

Try a different mouse just as a test.

Also look at Control Panel, Mouse Properties. Try different Double click speed settings.

Dropped the double click speed (which didn't know existed) and the first folder I tried opened with one click then after that they all behaved themselves, so maybe - that was it ? thanks

I am having difficulty with files and folders opening with a single click whilst using a USB mouse. The computer is only two months old and the USB mouse worked fine to start with. Only in the last two weeks has this problem occurred. I cannot think of anything that was changed around the time it started to not function correctly. My folder options are set on double click and the double click speed is set to slow. I have checked for driver updates for the mouse and have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the mouse. I am at a total loss of what else I can do to resolve this issue. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
