I have a couple of unused Windows 8.1 Standard and Pro and was wondering if I can resell the keys legally. I have 3 Windows 8.1 Pro and 5 Windows 8.1 Standard Keys.

Strange question. Why are you wondering?

More difficult to find anybody who would pay for them.

I was actually planning on trading them for Amazon Gift Cards. 8.1 Pro = $25 Amazon GC and 8.1 Standard = $20 Amazon GC. Soo, people are saving a ton of money. :)

Hello Wire, and welcome to Eight Forums.

It depends.

If they are retail keys, then yes it's legal to resell them if you like.

If they are OEM keys from Windows that came preinstalled on a purchased computer, then no it's not ok unless you sell it with the computer the key belongs with.

Hi Wire, welcome to the Eight Forums.

Don't take this personally but here's how I see this kind of offers:

  • New member, never posted here before this "offer"
  • I have no way to check the authenticity of the product key beforehand
  • If I send an Amazon Gift Card, the seller can use it already before sending the product key I bought to me
  • If authentic keys, why offering them here instead of eBay or any other site?
Based on the above, the only way I could even think of buying one of your keys would be to get the key first, then check it's legal, valid and authentic, and first then pay it to you.

They are retail keys obtained through the MSDN Program That I paid over $6K to be apart of(LOL). I can screenshot the msdn page and blur the keys out if you want. I am doing it through here because I want to get Amazon GC's from them, can't do that from ebay.

In that case, you cannot sell keys from the MSDN program. They are for your use only, and not for resell or others to use. Doing so would be illegal and can get your subscription permanently canceled without a refund, or possibly be prosecuted by Microsoft.

@Brink
Thank you for the info, thought I was allowed to resell them since I paid to get access to it. Welp, ok. Once again thank you. Can you close/delete this thread?

OK, so I was right. You are not allowed to sell the MSDN keys as clearly stated in the agreement you accepted when subscribing the service.

When signing up I didn't put a checkmark next to anything except to something to do with age. Only thing I had to checkmark when I subscribed.

Read my post again. I did not even hint that you had "put a checkmark" on something. I simply said that by paying for the subscription, you accepted the conditions. It is your responsibility as a buyer to check out what you are buying.
