This isn't a burning issue, however I would like to ask two related questions if I may. The first concerns the terms 'add (icon) to taskbar' and 'add (icon) to quick launch toolbar' do they both achieve the same result ie launch a program, and secondly if I have both 'Bars' with very many entries on each will it effect the overall performance of the laptop, I have 4GB Ram. Thanks.

'add (icon) to taskbar'
add (pin) a single item (program/shortcut) to taskbar
'add (icon) to quick launch toolbar'
add one or more items within a folder and quick launch toolbar will display these items in a menu.

Example: 3 single items and 7 quick launch tool bars

Hello Gervaise,

In addition to what Dino posted above.

If you mean being asked this while installing a program, then it's for placing a shortcut of the program to either or both locations. Both are just an option to launch/open the program from that location.

You can have as many shortcuts as you want "Pinned to taskbar" or added to Quick Launch (see below). It will not affect the performance of your computer since they are only shortcuts and do not take up any computer resources until you run them.

Hope this helps, :)

Thanks to both of you topgundcp and Brink, your answers have driven home the fact that I need to think a little more about an issue before 'passing it on'.
