8.1 multiple monitor caused issue.

I started using a second monitor recently, and ran into an issue when opening a folder. When I try to open any folder both screens will flash grey and then go back to normal, but the folder won't open. If I try again then the folder will open with no grey flash. If I switch back to just one screen, the same thing will happen, along with all of my icons being rearranged. Not sure what is causing this one, most times is just a nuisance.

Are you running the second display in Extend, Duplicate or Second Screen Only? Laptop or Desktop? How are the two monitors connected? Filling in your system specs would help greatly so we aren't guessing.

When this happens does the taskbar disappear too? It sounds like explorer is crashing which would likely explain your desktop icons getting rearranged? I run 3 monitors on a GT640 on my desktop PC, 2 DVI and 1 HDMI. I would hunt up the latest drivers for the GT640 and reinstall.

How are you switching from dual to single etc? I have shortcuts pined to my taskbar and start screen. The other way to do it is to press the windows logo key and the P key. I don't have any icons on my desktop. It sounds like the screen resolution is changing. Which monitor is set as the main screen and is it always the main screen.

I just stopped switching from dual to single, but I was using the window + p route. And the same monitor is always the main screen.

OK, weird that it does that for you? I switch to single when I game and then back to multi when done. I just wanted to check to see if you were doing it though the NVidia control panel or some program or App. I use shortcuts which mimic doing it with Windows key and P. You could open the event viewer and have a look and see if something in there may clue you into what's going on. Go to the start screen and type event.... and it should show up on the right. The last time I looked at mine though it just confused the hell out of me.

This problem disappeared for some time, But now it's back with a vengeance. And now it will happen in dual or single monitor. The following is about all I can find that may be useful in the EventViewer.

Think I may have just tracked it back to Classic Shell. I shut down Classic Shell, and everything was working fine. The version was 4.0.5, I updated to 4.1 and so far no problems.
