Solved Issue with Windows 8 startup and drivers loading

So, I seem to have an issue where Windows 8 will boot within seconds and get to the start screen but I won't be able to use my keyboard or mouse for about 10 - 15 seconds and they will flash on and off like it is still doing the Starting Windows screen. Is there a setting I may have screwed up or a way to fix this? I don't have the extreme fast boot on or whatever it is called where it bypasses the BIOS and graphics card loading screens. Any help is appreciated!

Sounds like the drivers for a USB or USB Wireless input device are not loading at the beginning of the boot process. If it is an older computer might check the BIOS for a Legacy USB setting and make sure it's Enabled, haven't seen the same with newer computers.

You might check for unnecessary startup items under the Startup tab in Task Manager that you don't need to start at boot, if unsure send us a screenshot. Knowing the model of the computer would help.

The motherboard is an ASRock Z77 Extreme 4, I built my PC myself so I guess that is what you are looking for in terms of model. Let me know if you need more information. Also I will check out the legacy USB support later.

I think I found the problem. I unplugged my portable Western Digital 1TB USB 3.0 hard drive before turning on my computer and my keyboard and mouse were functional instantly. I don't use it much so that isn't really a problem. If that is the issue not sure if there is a way to fix that or not, but marking thread as solved.

Thank you guys for the help

It could be the order the drivers are initializing. Windows assigns numbers to the USB devices on the root hub and initializes each on in a specific order. If you want to keep using your external hdd, try changing around which USB ports things are plugged into until your keyboard/mouse lag goes away.
