Solved Restore

I bought a new laptop and now have Windows 8. I installed my old Microsoft Office 2003, my two old dictionaries, Lightroom 5.6, and the codecs for my raw photo files. Everything seems to be running fine but I've lost the descriptions on my apps. I have colors, a few have words, and some are blank. Any suggestions.

One other glitch. My Spanish and Microsoft's Spanish don't always match and my Spanish is terrible anyway. Would "restore without effecting files" also leave all installed programs?

Are you talking about Windows Store Apps or all apps and is the problem on the Start Screen or desktop?

I'm not clear with the terms. The screen with the squares and rectangles. I think that's the start screen. I have squares and rectangles that came with the computer and I have squares and rectangles from some old programs I've added. As of right now, I have colored squares and rectangles, some have labels saying what they are, some don't, and one, the only downloaded app, Yahoo Weather displays perfectly with a photo background that changes.
