Two things I have noticed that W8.1 does better than W7

W8.1 seems to be way ahead of W7 for me on several things but these two stand out.

SuperFetch... I use LibreOffice and daily update some files at around the same time each evening. I noticed with W7 that it was hit and miss as to whether the application would launch instantly (already preloaded in RAM). Sometimes it was ready and waiting, other times not and had to fully load which takes several seconds. W8.1 seems to get it right every time, even when the time I use it varies by as much as twenty minutes or so.

The other thing is that less "unattended disk thrashing and reorganisation" is taking place. I make incremental backups of weekly chains of seven and if you leave W7 for a while it often goes into a disk thrash mode and its obviously doing something because the next incremental backup could be quite large. With W8.1 each daily backup is consistently small. It doesn't do the reorganising that W7 must have been doing.

Yes the whole memory handling has been kind of refined in 8, but they also added that in updates for Win7 sp1.

It certainly seems so although SuperFetch in W7 is nothing like as refined as it seems to be in W8.1, well my experience of it anyway.
