Solved My Documents folder 'location is not available'

I've had this error for some time wherein I would try to open my documents folder and I get this message every time: 'C:\Users\Me\Documents is not accessible. The file name, directory name, and volume label syntax is incorrect.' I also noticed that nothing was inside the folder at all, as I've checked its properties.

However, it seems that all those original files in the documents folder along with the folder itself seemed to have been moved to a different directory, as I managed to open it from my desktop in the windows explorer. It only appears from there too, as I've checked my libraries and no documents folder existing as well.

The only time It did open was when I tried creating a shortcut of that inaccessible folder onto my desktop and opening it from there. It's bothering me because I can't seem to install anything properly without a message telling me that it can't access my documents files or that it can't find the directory, etc. Hope I get to fix this once and for all. Any ideas?

I won't even install windows 7, 8 or 8.1 without also installing "Grant Admin Full Control".

That will allow you to Right Click on any file or Folder and Grant yourself ownership of that file or folder.

With that done, you won't get those nasty "you don't have permission...." messages for anything you've already taken ownership of.

Once you do what Brink posted and have restored the default location, you can copy everything from the misplaced documents folder into the "C:\Users\Me\Documents". Or use the location tab and move it to the folder with your files in it.

Thank you!!! Option two very much solved the problem. Thank goodness I'm able to open the folder now.
Another question though, would it be alright to merge the backup files in that folder now? Again, thank you for the help!

Yes, you can safely copy back any files you would like back from the backup into your Documents folder.

A while back, I tried tweaking from the location tab in the folder's properties, to no avail as the tab itself was missing. Fortunately restoring it using a reg file and registry editor quickly solved the problem! Thank you!

Yeah, it gets messed up when you move the folder and the folder accidently gets moved again or deleted. It's a bit misleading as it doesn't actually move the folder it just moves the contents. You'll see what I mean if you don't create a new folder before the move. Did that once and it made a mess of things.
