how to set pc to not auto start on power falure

HI OMG today i came home to my alienware x51 in some dell system recovery screen, i asked my kid what happened today she said the lights flickered several times, during a freak storm, So my pc must have tried to auto start several times, this is not good at all, i'm so lucky no damage was done at least so far. But how do i stop this behavior from happening again is there a setting i can turn off, so if we have another light flicker or loss of power that it never does it again. I just hope in the long run that my computer is not damaged who knows how many times it tried to reboot.

Maybe you want to buy yourself a UPS battery system. Can be had for cheap on sale. Automatic Voltage regulation is always a desirable feature, but adds to the price kind of quickly.

i think i will try and find a good one if i get enough money. any way to at this point turn this feature off?

Most PC will just simply power off when the power fails, and not try to auto-restart.
Then when you try to start it is when you might see the OMG something went wrong messages.

yes but mine is auto restarting itself when it looses power for a short time makes me think there has to be a setting to turn this off.

Have you checked your BIOS settings?

I'm using LM17 at the moment, so I can't check my Windows 7 settings.

The BIOS on most motherboards have a setting for either restarting after a power interruption or to stay off, the default is usually to stay off.

huh i will look in there i wonder why mine is set to on is wired i never changed it.

Yeah, look for something like "state after a power failure" in the Power Options, BIOS Menu. If you were running a home server or wanted remote access you'd set it to turn on again. As mentioned the default is usually Off.
