Well, I can report the community at large that Windows 8 WILL run off a USB 2.0 flash drive, and be installed within 7 gigs for a 32 bit version.
Having said that, I have annoyances I want to see if I can get help with....
Firstly, Windows Update will not allow me to check for updates nor install them. The error code points to user account privileges. I went on the bing.com and looked around, and this goes all the way back to vista and there are some fixes for 7, but some don't work in 8 and I doubt the others will. Is there anything I can do?
Secondly, I cannot pin ANYTHING to the Taskbar. This one is an oddity since I can pin the poop out of the Start Screen, but not the Taskbar. How kinky... I found something on the interwebster that said that Windows 7 won't allow items from user mapped network drives or removable drives to pin on the Taskbar. Windows 8 To Go doesn't detect the Windows drive as a hard drive, but a removable storage drive. I've done a couple of changes to the flash drive to enable write caching and all, but is there something that will make Windows detect the drive as a local hard drive? I also need that to happen because the Zune software won't install because it detects the install directory to be on a removable drive. It will install on the hard drive though.
I've also lost some text in metro apps. For example, right clicking on a misspelled word in IE 10 metro pops up a lime green box with no text with spelling suggestions. This is also true in the Windows Store. When I want to install an app, a green bar comes up across the screen with no text or anything. Also, I don't think I can install apps either.
On a related note, I've had the Windows apps, Mail, Calendar, People and Messenger, they stopped working even though there were no updates installed for them. I had them working and all was swell. And after a couple of reboots, they all stopped working.
Well, shoot. Can anyone offer some help?
