Does anyone know if MSFT plans to release another beta with an updated build number reflecting any revisions they've made in response to the consumer preview feedback?

If not, is there anyway we could perhaps encourage them to do so?

Yep, the Release Candidate will be the next release. I bet that might come out in the summer, maybe Julyish along with the Office 15 beta. By that time, the RC will be 99.9999 percent Windows 8 and what the final version will be. So hopefully, Microsoft gets their poop in a group and make the Desktop View to pair along with the Start Screen nicely.

Hi there
Any Documentation AT ALL on doing things with Metro Apps -- until this is sorted out I can't see any RC version appearing.

There's no point in making Metro UI the big topic if it can't DO anything useful or people can't easily code stuff for them.
This whole Metro stuff needs to be sorted and PRONTO.

I am really positive about the Consumer preview edition - but for desk top users - unless they can sort out the treacle like mess that the current Metro desktop presents after you've installed a few standard Windows programs ( and I mean proper Applications -- not "apps") then it's not going to fly.

I reckon there will be at least ONE more version before RC as MS will have to test out the whole metro thing properly.

Cheers

July?

Bit late to get it to the oem's and on the shelves for Xmas buyers.

Can't recall when win7 rc was released - a lot earlier I think -was it April - and that was cutting it tight.

I expect they want to start getting it to oem's in August - on the shelves while it is still October.

Normally there is 2 beta's, followede by 2 RC versions before it goes RTM. That the way it went with Vista, and win 7 had 2 RC's, I think.

If they want to hit the Holiday buying season - they don't have all that much time.

Not sure if Apple has anything up it's sleeve - if so , that would totally eclipse any windows release.

They have to get this into a window of opportunity.

Jimbo, I'm enjoying the Windows 8 Preview edition, and I found a great solutin to the Metro problem Press Control+Escape, and it will switch you to the traditional desktop.

Hi there
Think you misunderstood my post.

No prob switching into the traditional desktop -- that wasn't what my post was saying.

You can't as yet customize the Metro UI -- so you have to first do all sorts of shenanigans to get "Open File Location" in order to set a desktop short cut --and it still doesn't solve the HIDEOUS looking infinitely spreading Left===> Right Tile system .

Cheers

Actually, Jimbo, I've managed to get two more tiles working, and I'm starting to see the advantages of the Metro system. Am I correct in saying that some of them cannot be turned on in the Preview edition?

Hi there
I'm not trying to avoid the Metro UI -- I just want it to function PROPERLY and allow a decent bit of User customisation -- If this COULD work properly I actually would prefer this to the traditional Start menu on the desktop.

Cheers
