Sorry I should have said my laptop is loosing time and is no longer the same time as my other laptop. Both laptops used to read the same time. Have re-set it at the same as my other laptop. But how do you know what the underlying reason is for your machine to lose time, could it be the CMOS battery even if it is a relatively new laptop?

If the CMOS battery is not seated properly, could be.
Verify that the internet time setting is set to synchronize in the Date and Time setting of the Control Panel.

Yes both are on the same server and same time zone. I have updated the automatic sync with time.windows.com on both machines. I'll just have to keep checking everytime I log on that the both of them's time is in sync.

For your info, Windows by default checks the Internet Times every 7 days, this default value can be changed if it is critical to you.

How long did it take for the two computers to have 3 minutes of difference?

It's normal for the clocks to vary in time since the crystal oscillator is not any where near as accurate as an Atomic clock. I think mine is about 2 or 3 seconds a day.

Hmm, it might be a week or more - I should have noted when it first started loosing time. Just have been so busy I hadn't had the time to do anything about it.

Well, that's what Internet time correction is for. Most smartphones do it thru GSM network. PCs can keep and synchronize time with server thru network too.
