Windows 8 Partition Merge now having issues

ok so shoot me now!!

I run Windows 8 on a Laptop that I recently purchased, it had 2 drives with a partition each, but the C drive was so small it was ridiculous, so I merged the C and F drives, there was nothing on F and all went smoothly. I used AOMEI Partition Assistant Standard Edition 5.5

Now though, every 5 minutes or so the screen flicks purple and checks the CD Drive, and if I have Windows Explorer open it closes it. I can not use the Start button or any other buttons on the start bar until it is finished flicking, albeit only a few seconds it is enough to drive me crazy.

I should also mention i run Classic Shell

What have I done and How do I fix it???

Please Please help ...

restore it

Hi Suzie,
IF your still running 8
NOT 8.1
Run the restore to factory settings operation and Select the option for only 1 partition

Hi there

Did you mean merge the C and F partitions or drives !!

IMO the best way to fix your problem would be to do the following.

1) restore any backup you have of your system.
2) Download GPARTED and create a bootable copy.
3) Boot it up
4) DELETE any free space / partition on the drive so you can extend the C partition.
5) ensure the free space is immediately NEXT to the C partition -- if you have say a D or E between the C partition and the free space MOVE those so the free space is adjacent to your C partition. Just move with the mouse - GPARTED is simple to use and is FREE.
6) Now expand C partition into the free space.
7) Boot Windows -- Job done.

(If you are fine with Linux then you can download any Linux Live CD and simply run GPARTED - however if you aren't a Linux user then simply download GPARTED itself abd create a bootable DVD / USB)

GParted -- Download

Cheers

C and F

What i also find interesting is that its c and f
most come with c and d, F sounds like somebody has already changed the format of the drive

First partition of every physical drive takes precedence over windows logical setting. So, C: ends up first with first partition of next physical drive gets D:

Taking that C: has BOOT partition and you do not have any windows programs actually installed on other partitions/drives you can change letters of each partition (except of course C: ) to your liking.

Thanks again CountMike, but does that help the flicking problem where it checks all drives including the CD Rom and closes my Windows Explorer if it is open?

Something that did not finish loading from CD might be looking for that. You could try doing this:
Go to device manager, uninstall driver for CD/DVD and restart computer. It should reinstall driver than.

The new C drive. You might try shrinking it by say 100mb with windows disk management. Then expand it back to fill the space.
Hopefully windows will then fix your partition snafu. Windows seems to sometimes not like other software playing with their partitions.
