Unable to start Disk Management. I tried the following without success:
- Check file integrity
- Repair with DISM
- Start the Virtual Disk Service and Volume SHadoy Copy manually and set them to Automatic and Manual (it starts, but Disk Management cannot connect to it)
- Disable Firewall and Antivirus
- Verified that my system is malware free
- Tried opening it in Safe Mode
You might try going to the Services panel (services.msc) and looking at the properties for the Virtual Disk service. Open the Dependencies tab and check that those three services are also running or can be started.
Have you done anything with the utility lately like mount a .vhd or .xvhd file? Is there anything which might be corrupted and causes problems for the Utility with it tries to scan the drives?
The only thing that I can think of is I uninstalled/reinstalled Acronis True Image 2014 using their uninstaller, but I'm unsure is this is related to the issue.
That software does not seem to say it is compatible with Windows 8.1. Since 8.1 is a different OS version, you can't really assume if it says Windows 8 that is also means 8.1.
It would seem to be related to your problem but are you getting any errors in Event Viewer about the problem?
Are you using the OneDisk Cloud option? I don't use it, so possibly it is involved with that.
