Hi

New member here.

I wanted to know how many of you use the CP as your main OS.

I want to use it as my main OS, but don't have the guts to do it:eek: I keep thinking I might run into a deal-breaker problem sooner or later. Do all of your programs work fine?

I mainly use my computer for internet (chrome), itunes, Lightroom & Photoshop, Office 2010.

Thanks

I will keep it only in VM to learn it because one day I will have a PC to repair with Windows 8 as OS, personally I don't find it worth to replace my Windows 7 in all my PCs.

I dual boot with Windows 7 and use Windows 8 just for testing my hardware and software. I would not recommend using it as my only OS. Still got some bugs, but that is why it is a preview.

Until there's an effective way to remove Metro and all the other unnecessary paraphernalia, I will confine the client OS to a VM. I am. however, running Server 8 Beta on bare metal and it's running very nicely, with several roles defined.

I am using 8 CP as my main OS on my desktop. (no virtualization, straight clean install from a fresh pc build) It's not my only pc but it's becoming my main PC because it works very well. The more I use it, the more I like it.

Cheers!

I use Windows 7 as my main OS but have Windows 8 CP in a triple-boot along with Ubuntu. As not all of my software is compatible with Windows 8 I find it easier to just use Windows 7 until all the compatibility issues are fixed.

I can't use W8 CP, as my main OS, because it refuses to install my sound driver properly (no music or video).

I suppose I could use W8 DP, since everything works in that version (including the "Start Menu").

Main OS since it came out. No reason not to. Easily the fastest of 7, OSX and Ubuntu I've run on my Q6600 OC to 3.2GHz. No reason for an i5 now that 8 is here. Makes my MacBook Pro i7 look like it's stuck in the mud. Thanks MS for giving my 4 year old computer another few years of top-end performance. As for Metro -- I IGNORE it.

The only reason that I maintain my dual boot with 7 is because I have like 25 games installed there, and many will not start in Win8 saying the registry entries are not available.

Other than that ZoneAlarm is not ready for 8 yet and I rely heavily on it. I can use the Windows Firewall to have the same exact functionality (and do), but it is still not the same.

Thumbs up for Win 8 reliability and usability - whether you like Metro or not is another issue separate from this thread's intent.

I was planning to use Win 8 as my main system but starting to set it up I realized that what I was trying to do with it was to see how much I could make it look and work like my Windows 7. So now dual boot with Windows 7 as main system but still able to boot to Win 8 and will remain this way uintil I see the Start Menu back so it looks like Windows 7 the same way the Developer edition of Windows 8 would allow.
There are issues with Windows 8 that I have not been able to resolve such as unable to get Paperport to recognize my scanner even though it works just fine in Windows 7. I also remain confused with Explorer 10 and some of the strange happenings when trying to print for example.
So net is that Windows 7 works and it is too big a task to make Windows 8 look like Windows 7 and that leaves me as a strong supporter of 7 and in impatient mode about Windows 8.

Agree 100%.
Please, let's not make every thread into a Metro topic. There are many other threads about this.
There are many other things to be discovered and discussed about Windows 8.

I'm dual booting with Win7, but using Win8 most of the time.
If all your apps run in Win8, don't see any reason not to have it your main.

I have only W8 now. I deleted W7.

I got used to it and it is faster in my laptop than W7 and completely stable so far. Everything works fine for me. I also like the antivirus integration, the improved firewall, the improved Task Manager and some other details.

I basically ignore Metro, and about the Start Menu, I just moved the tiles of my usual programs to be at hand in the new Metrro Start Menu, so I can live with it. In two clicks I open my programs.

I still think that W8 with Metro and all these changes are an awful idea for average users with average or low knowledge and lazy to learn the changes, but I just got used to it.

I don't think I'll go back to W7. It is installed in my two laptops with no other OS.

No reason to not have it as your main OS other than it is still buggy as hell. Every single time I reboot and leave metro page for the real desktop there is about a 60-90 second delay where if I hit any icon on the desktop it just gives me the spinny icon for the 60-90 secs. Real nice that is

Just getting it to install is a headache. Tired of it already, and it doesn't really bring nearly enough new functions to the table.

As big a hit as W7 was, this will not be at all I think.

Strange. Life is a matter of luck. As much as I dislike Metro and some ideas/changes in W8, for me it is the best Windows release by far in terms of stability, speed, lightness and feature-richness. The fastest installation ever, fastest start-up, solid, fast, totally flawless except for those occasional tabs that open in the taskbar but disappear with one click.

Life surely is a matter of luck, loading W8 should however not be.

I don't even mind the metro screen, if you don't like it just ignore it, easy enough to do.

Stable, that certainly has not been my experience at all. The whole thing with the delay when on my desktop is an automatic disqualifier till it's fixed with drivers or updated windows explorer.

I also found it to be by far the fastest to install, when it bothers to install at all. But this is hardly a selling point for me at all.

You have to remember this is an unfinished version though. For me, its perfectly stable, occasionally a game will crash but for day to day stuff, its actually more stable than my copy of 7.

I still remember the developer preview just randomly deciding that certain features that were working 10 minutes ago, such as "swiping" an app in, would suddenly just stop working. At least that nonsense is now fixed.

Personally I now use it more than 7. I have 7 on a dual boot because of all my games, but for day to day tasks I use the CP

I've got Win8 running on my Netbook and it by far is the fastest OS available for it. Tried Linux, Win7 and OSX. It just uses much less resources!

It's also running on my desktop as main OS. So far no problems and it handles all my programs without any issues. It's a pleasure using Photoshop on it!

This is my second laptop after my old notebook that broke because file system is corrupted and I can't recover it. And my Internet speed is super duper low in other countries. And my income is so low (US$200/month) so I don't have any electronic equipment except this laptop.
Main Op system for me installed to my SSD drive which is the way to go. Can't stand using dual boot so no partitions on my main drive.

Getting use to the Metro UI was no problem for me, I've never seen so much whining about something that is so easy to use. I'm also certain that Msoft fully intends to make the Metro screen optional in later builds so complaining about it is really a mute point.

Only one work around required for my G15 keyboard which was locking up the screen until I fixed it.

Other than that it's been way more stable for me compared to Windows 7, especially when gaming.
