Hi there
I had to revert one of my laptops back to W7 -- need it for work. I'm still using W8 at home etc.

I did a CLEAN re- install of W7 Enterprise X-64 which INCLUDED SP1.

After the install it needed over 120 updates -- even BEFORE installing OFFICE 2010. This was a W7 install which INCLUDED SP1 so if you are reverting to an OLDER copy of W7 you'll need even more updates. !!!

Just warning people in case for one reason or another they revert back to W7 and choose to do a complete re-install -- process could take you longer than you think !!!!

Cheers
jimbo

Hi there
Couldn't do it that way -----===>

I would have done it something like that anyway but :

I needed a COMPLETE fresh install on a computer I was going to use at work (Work supplied the W7 Enterprise edition for me to use on site) --You can't buy this version as an individual retail purchaser and it can't be upgraded from another version of Windows.

Thanks -- for other people yours is a decent suggestion.

cheers

Hi,

It's about time MS rolls it all up and releases it as SP2.

Ciao, ;)

I don't think MS wants to do that. It wants to sell Windows 8, and in time-old tradition, will strangle its previous most successful offspring in order that the latest enfant terrible will survive.

Hi,

It's not that hard to bundle the lot into a single executable and call it SP whatever but yeah, I see your point.
In the meantime I think the latest "enfant terrible" is a bit of a miscarriage.....

Cheers, ;)

I have 5 partitions on my laptop, Original win 7, with all program files and libraries moved to another partition, then installed win 8 and then before using cloned that partition. Then used bios to turn off hp tools, quick web boot. Then inserted win 7 cd and told it to fix boot errors. Now my hp Envy i7, boots to quickweb for media use without windows, then asks if I want to boot to any of three windows, win 8, win 8 restore and win 7 restore. All of them work and each takes a reboot or about two min. I also used partition magic to clone all the partitions to an exterior usb 3 1tb HDD. I love it., But use win 7 more. Next another partition for win 95 so I can use tons of old software and hardware that sits in my basement on an old pc.

So now you know how pain is my work, I do that lall the day, install Windows

Hi,

I don't think MS wants to do that. It wants to sell Windows 8, and in time-old tradition, .

They don't just want sell Windows 8, they want also to get peoples for the next step, Midori ( the after Windows MS cloud OS, google it) ; MS have only one goal, put the OS and all the application on their servers, not in our PC, it well start with Windows 8 and Office 365, I don't know if some of you notice, but if you install Windows 8 and log with a hotmail account, and you install windows 8 in another pc, well, when you gone, log with the same account, all the favorites are back, magic? no, their are on MS server.

Any reinstall of an OS that has been out for a few years will take a lot of time - and Office is just as bad. For friends I installed an XP from a recovery partition of 2005 and a Vista from a recovery partition of 2007. In both cases it took 2 days elapsed time before all the OS updates were rolling in. It was no particular problem - just lengthy.

I've done a couple of clean installs with XP, you need plenty of coffee and good books, although Windows 7 is getting nearly as bad.

@ Calico, forgot to thank you for posting those new features in Windows 8, especially like the one on storage..

You can find OSes to install "in the wild" that have been completely patched up to date upon install.

Whether you trust them or not is definitely up to you, but in the rare times I've relied on them, I haven't been able to see any issues.
That doesn't mean issues weren't there though. Like I said, your call.

I've made Windows 7 SP1 x86 .iso before it was even available officially and shared it...those that downloaded definitely did not recieve malware from me. :)
