Problems w start up. Tried DISM and SFC to check OS

Windows 8.1 64 bit running Windows Update continuously.
Suddenly I had significant problem getting a two year old laptop started. Repair, recovery, reset, restore did not work. Recovery would not recognize the recovery disk! None of the reset points would work! After trying boot options 1, 4 and 5, then option 7 finally got it back alive.
Afterwards I have been trying to see if the OS is corrupted; and am hesitant to turn off the laptop to run chkdsk.
I tried to run dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth /source:wim:d:\sources\install.wim1 /limitaccess pointing to the windows iso DVD. There is an exe file with the name install at that location. It returns the message that "The source files could not be found". And sfc /scannow "found corrupt files". I tried to run this a couple of times.
Looked in the CBS file, which is what the DSIM error message suggested, but it's long. Skimming through it I do not find anything obvious. Should I search for something specifically?

Near the end of the CBS log, there should be an entry with an [SR] designation which says something about not being able to repair member files. If you find that, you may see which files are not being repaired.

An alternative would be to copy the command below and paste it into an administrative command prompt. It will create a text file on your desktop you could also look near the end of the log for the same type of entry.

findstr /c:"[SR]" %windir%\Logs\CBS\CBS.log >"%userprofile%\Desktop\sfcdetails.txt"

Sometimes it takes a combination of repair operations to resolve a problem. So even if I remembered what option 7 was, it might have needed an earlier one be able to boot.

Sometimes know exactly which repair screen you are looking at and what options are available might help see where you are. If all you are seeing is a blue background with 7 options, you are not in the normal Repair system, which might mean you Boot information has been corrupted somehow.

The Dism switch to set it to another source is not normally needed. It should check your install first, and if it can't find that, use Windows Update to recover the files. The /Limit Access keeps if from going online.

I searched for the text "cannot repair member file", there only seem to be one file. Here is the first entry with the error message:
2014-07-05 13:05:37, Info CSI 000005c6 [SR] Cannot repair member file [l:36{18}]"Amd64\CNBJ2530.DPB" of prncacla.inf, Version = 6.3.9600.16384, pA = PROCESSOR_ARCHITECTURE_AMD64 (9), Culture neutral, VersionScope = 1 nonSxS, PublicKeyToken = {l:8 b:31bf3856ad364e35}, Type = [l:24{12}]"driverUpdate", TypeName neutral, PublicKey neutral in the store, hash mismatch

Regarding the troubleshooting during startup. There was no problems navigating around the different options for repair and recovery. It just did not work until boot up option 7, which does not make much sense why that would work? At this point I was just randomly trying.

The Windows 8 Recovery Process is pretty much hidden from the user. As long as you have the page with the six selections, you are using the normal Recovery process. If it was just a list with a bunch of numbered entries, you are not.

The file you reference as not being repaired seems to be on quite a few installs. It is a file for a Canon printer driver and should not effect your install. Running Dism with the /restorehealth switch will usually remove that error.
