(I am running 8.1 on an MSI GT60 2OC)
Ive seen this on the forum alot but found no resolve, mine is like this, Everything will be fine for a good while and at some point when I switch to the start menu after scrolling my mouse out of the bottom left corner and off of the start button, the task bar and start button will drop down and dispensary like it should. However when I scroll over the corner again, it doesn't pop back up, I cant swipe up or down for my charms bar on the right or see my running apps on the left everything is unaccessible. It can be fixed temporary by re logging but its only a matter of time before it happens again. I have done many hd wipes and re-installations to resolve this issue. Nothing works. I have some apps installed and some drivers. I also did a bios update and some firmware updated and at this point im thinking it may be them but I have no idea. I cant clean boot to troubleshoot because sometimes the bug wont show up for a whole day. Im a new win 8 user and I like the changes made since win 7 but this is a massive problem for me and I am just pulling my hair out here:mad:

1 weird thing I noticed was that someone else on this forum with what sounded like my problem also had Revo Uninstaller on thier computer, a program that I also have installed..

Hello Kupsey, and welcome to Eight Forums.

Does pressing the :winkey: key allow you to toggle back to your desktop, and have them work normally again?

For the taskbar on the Start screen, you should be able to also press the :winkey: + T keys to see it again.
For Charms bar, see if pressing the :winkey: + C keys will open it.
For app switcher, see if pressing the CTRL + :winkey: + TAB keys will open it.

Hope this helps for now, :)
Shawn

I'm not sure why they just stop working like that out of the blue, but I'm glad you will at least have the options above as a workaround to get back to normal with.

This is being caused by something you have installed or set. Normally (at least for me), this is not an issue in Windows 8.1.

Kupsey,

Just on the theory that misery loves company, I thought I'd chime in. I am having the same problem with the disappearing Charms and Start button. I haven't installed any new software in quite a while, but have, of course, updated any number. This includes some huge Win 8.1 updates in the last week.

Here's hoping someone is looking into this. However, it is too minor a problem for me to actually work on identifying the culprit, if it is a clash between Windows and some other program.
