Something changed in the last week or so that has caused the system to sometimes not automatically go to sleep and when it does not go to sleep after the selected time it won't shutdown either. When this happens and I try to shutdown the system it shuts down but then immediately reboots on it's own. This has only happened two or three times in the last week but I never had this issue until recently! It appears like I can either turn off the power via the power supply and restart to make the problem go away or if I manually put it to sleep and wake up it will power down - at least that is what worked the last time this happened. Any idea on what is causing this strange behavior? I did install update KB2962409 around the time the problem appeared?
To test your theory you could use system restore to a point earlier than when the problem started. You could also uninstall that update and reinstall it if it was not the problem.
Yeah, I know how to back off stuff, I was hoping I was not the only person in the world that started experiencing this problem and someone would shed some light on the bad guy! In addition to KB2962409 I have installed the Skype App and turned on File History in the last 2 weeks. I also installed a whole bunch of updates on 6/12/2014.
I uninstalled the Skype App yesterday and so far I can't make the problem happen - but it may take awhile for it to reappear.
Problem has not return and neither has the Skype App. Maybe in a year or two the problem will get resolved in the meantime I'll keep a W7 system for Skyping.
