Solved Very unique issue in windows 8.

I’m having this problem that I’ve never even heard of before but here is a rundown of what it is.

If I have any application up after about a minute or so all of the buttons on my desktop bar become unresponsive to mouse clicks as well as the minimize and exit buttons in the top right corner of whatever I am running. Even the menus opened up by windows button/C are unresponsive. The only way I can change what I’m viewing is through alt/tab but even when I do that the only program that is responsive to mouse clicks/keyboard is whatever was currently up when it went into this mode. Another effect I noticed with this specific to web browsers is that if it starts while I am using a web browser it acts as if I am spamming the previous page button and it will just keep going back through all the pages I have been to.

The only way I can unlock my computer from this mode is by hitting ctrl/alt/del and opening up the task manager. For some reason that will unlock the computer for a minute or so and then it will come back. This effect just randomly started happening a few days ago and I was currently running windows 8 but I decided to go ahead and get the windows 8.1 update to see if it would fix it and even after the update the same problem continued.

I have tried all kinds of google searches and talked to a Microsoft support tech about the problem but so far I haven’t even heard of anyone having the same problem much less getting a solution. I have also already done multiple scans on my computer to chck for malware/viruses and nothing came up. Any help will be much appreciated.

sfc /scannow command says that there are no integrity violations.

To the first reply, I did not set up a system restore point prior to the issue happening.

it sure is a weird problem ,are you using windows defender or a 3rd party antivirus program as your full time virus tool .
so what you are explaining is with a win8 metro app ,do it also act like this if you run say a browser from the desktop

I am using Avast! as my virus tool. The problem occurs no matter what program I am running whether that be a browser a video game etc.

It can't be that the mouse and keyboard are sticking because they continue to work for the program that is currently pulled up when this happens but on nothing else.

Does this odd behavior persist even when booting in safe mode?

if I was having this issue I would first remove avast or totally disable it ,and see how things work ,if no change I would reinstall it
I would then suspect hardware ,I would start with checking the harddrive for errors ,then my ram for errors ,

could you go to control panel ,and open system and post a screen shot of that info .
check tutorial if you need help posting a screen shot

Sorry I've had quite a busy day but I did try uninstalling Avast and the problem persists. I will do the disk check of the hard drive and check ram for errors and get back to you.

So I just decided to try plugging in a different mouse into my computer and the problem went away. I'm still not sure how my mouse was doing what it was doing it is about as simple of a wireless mouse as it can get. In any case it definitely beats having a problem with any of the hardware inside my computer and thank you all for the assistance.
